Go Haywire——失去控制

!! Hay bales were compressed and tied with soft wire called "haywire." Cutting it loose caused the wire to spring out dangerously, often cutting the farmer, snagging his clothing, wrapping around legs or tangling into a chaotic mess.

!! Haywire was also used for quick, temporary repairs. If permanent fixes were never made, the place "went haywire"——meaning disorderly or ramshackle.
