!! In military terms a rank denotes soldiers standing side by side in a row, and file refers to soldiers standing in front and behind one another. Arranged as a platoon or a company in a formal setting, the enlisted men line up in ranks and files. In the Army, the rank and file are privates and corporals. The transition from military to unions, corporations, and political parties happened naturally.

軍事術語中，橫排表示並排站成一列的士兵，直排指前後站立的士兵。在正式作戰環境中，士兵們以橫排或直排為單位列隊。陸軍中，普通士兵軍銜是列兵和下士。從軍隊到工會、公司、政黨的過渡是自然發生的。
