!! The word “rear” meaning to set something upright or hold it in an elevated position was used in the phrase “horse rearing.” “Rear its head” had been around since the middle of the 17th century. During the 19th century, some writer added the word “ugly” to relate an image of something disagreeable, undesirable or unpleasant. “Rear its ugly head” is now often used.

“rear”一詞的意思是將某物件豎直放置或將其保持在較高的位置,用在短語“horse rearing”中。“Rear its head”一詞自十七世紀中葉就已出現。在十九世紀,某作家添加了“醜陋”一詞來描述令人不愉快、不受歡迎或令人不快的事物。現在經常使用“rear its ugly head”。
