Cut No Ice——毫無效果

!! The phrase predates modern refrigeration, when ice was literally cut from the surface of frozen ponds in the winter to be stored for use in the summer. The image is that the sharp tool, such as a saw, was too blunt to cut ice off of an ice block.
(這個短語出現於現代“製冷”之前,當時在冬天從冰凍的池塘表面切下冰,儲存起來以備夏天使用。比喻形如鋸子的工具因為太鈍,無法從冰面上鋸下冰塊。)
!! It might have come from skating, that is, the image of a skater who cannot cut the skates in the ice, because of their being blunt, or the skater’s skill was poor.
(它可能來自滑冰,即一個滑冰者因冰鞋太鈍無法在冰上切冰,或者滑冰者的技術很差。)
!! It might also have come from an icebreaker that cannot break up ice floes in the sea or river.
(它也可能來自不能破開海洋或河流中浮冰的破冰船。)

>> No matter what this preacher said to me, it cut no ice because he could not convince me that this sub-branch of Christianity was approved by the Father.
