Sail Under False Colors——假冒

!! “Sail under false colors” alludes to the practice of pirate ships sailing under a flag of “friendly nation,” i.e., false colors, specifically to lure another vessel to come close enough, when it would raise the Jolly Roger that bears the dreaded symbol of the skull and crossbones, to be attacked and captured.

!! But earlier, “under false colors” had been used to denote a man, sect, or an army appearing in the garb or under the insignia of an entity, of which he was not a member.
