!! The term came from Greek mythology. Thetis, the leader of the sea nymphs, wanted to make her infant son Achilles ("ch" pronounces "k") immortal and invulnerable in battle as an adult. She held him by his heel and dipped him into the River Styx. The water in that river was believed to confer invulnerability, but his heel remained dry because her hand was cupped over it. The heroic warrior Achilles was killed by an arrow shot into his un-dipped heel.
