!! The French Emperor Napoleon was exiled to Elba island after his forced abdication following the Treaty of Fontainebleau (1814). He escaped in February of 1815, and mustered 198,000 men to fight against 215,000 men armies of English, Dutch, Belgian, Prussian, and Austrian allies. Napoleon was defeated and imprisoned on the island of St. Helena, where he died in 1821. “Meet one’s Waterloo” alludes to the final defeat of Napoleon’s French army at the “Battle of Waterloo.”
