!! The gray-colored American thrush in the South including the mockingbirds are skilled at imitating other birds and animals. It is specifically called the catbird since the early 18th century because one of its most impressive imitations resembles the mew of a cat. The term was derived from the habit of the catbird of sitting on the highest perch in trees to deliver its “song,” thus suggesting superiority.
